SPECIES

For pictures, click on the species or species type. (these pictures are only examples and there are variations and, unless otherwise stated, both genders)

Note: All species with at least a single drop of magic blood (obviously this excepts Humans, but they do have to capacity to learn if taught) share the ability to communicate with others through thought waves. This is only possible if both communicators are sending and receiving thoughts. If one end is closed to conversation, then only magic beings gifted with Mind Reading can force their way into another creature’s mind. Also, only those beings gifted with Mind Reading can resist this force against their mind.

Mage

Types:
Pureborn
Marble
Can be bred against:
Mage
Faerie
Nymph
Demon
Gifted
Human
Powers:
Unlimited
+ Winged Flight
Description:
The Mage is the most powerful being every to walk to the earth. The living essence of Magic and Youth, ever immortal. There are two types of Mage- Pureborn and Marble Mage. The Pureborn Mage is the exact offspring of two different Mages. Considering how rare it is for a male and female to find and become attracted in this sort of way, this is the more rare of the two types, occurring usually only once every millennia. If for any reason a Mage were to reproduce with something outside its species (faerie, human, etc.), the child would take on the species of the parent without Mage gene.
The Marble Mage is how they came to exist in the first place. When a willow tree is struck by lightning, the collision of nature and magic turn the bark and leaves to marble. If within a hundred years time, the marble has been stripped away or shed by erosion, a full grown Mage is released from its dormat state inside the tree trunk. This is only known to happen once or twice every millennia.
Needless to say, Mage are a very rare breed. Their magic is nearly unlimited and the only creature that can rival a mage is another mage. All powers are natural to them, and possibly an array of powers not yet even discovered or given name. But despite this fact, the Mage are typically peaceful, not seeking power and usually not mingling or meddling with the species they feel are below them. They are also usually loners, wanting to avoid their own kind in order to avoid meeting someone who might be more powerful than them.
A final note that Mage do in fact have wings. They can fly with or without them, so they usually keep them hidden and tucked away seeing as they seem to serve no purpose. These wings are Angel-like Wings, as apposed to the Faerie Gossamer Wings. They come in only two shades, white and black. Supposed symbol of purity, with the birth of the first Dark Mage, the second shade was introduced. These wings are subject to change color to coincide with the color of the heart.

Faerie

Types:
Elite
Mixed
Can be bred against:
Faerie
Mage
Nymph
Elve
Demon
Gifted
Human
Powers:
Unique to each faerie
Born with two gifts.
+ Winged Flight
Description:
Faeries are usually similar in size to humans, although typically slightly smaller. (Range: 4’6” to 5’6”) They all must be born through a mother and a father, either both faerie, making the child a Pure Elite Faerie, or through a mother and a father only one being faerie. The faerie gene will always take precedence over any other gene (excepting nymphs). These are considered Mixed Faerie. Also, Mixed Faerie will have a shorter life-span than Elite Faerie, by several thousand years. The maximum known Faerie life was 10,000 years.
Obviously another physical feature of Faerie includes wings, a point of pleasure when touched. They also allow them to fly, but when desired these wings can be sealed to the Faerie’s back, either by themselves or by an external force. Also, if these wings are ripped from the Faerie’s back, the only way to have them reconnected is by the assistance of another magical creature. Every magical creature, however, can only reunite a Faerie with its wings once.
These Faerie are a communal group, enjoying one another’s company and functioning under a regime of the Faerie King and Queen and council. Their palace is hidden, however, in the sky. It is said to hidden by a key, sent down to Illumalta to keep them safe from the threat the other warring species presented. Although few know that this key is in fact a Faerie, who knows not her heritage.

Elf

Types:
Elf
Elve
Can be bred against:
Elf-
Only other Elf
Elve-
Elve
Mage
Faerie
Nymph
Demon
Gifted
Human
Powers:
Earth
Healing
Animal Communication
Description:
All Elves, of whichever breed, share the common connection with Nature and the Earth and the ability to Heal. There are two types, very different but still bretheren in their sharing of powers and connection with nature: the Elf and the Elve.
The Elf never exceeds four feet in height. Their power is very limited and for the most part these creatures stay hidden away in the forest living in small groups and keeping entirely to themselves. They live only to be about 300. Recently, these creatures have been enslaved to work in households throughout the Empire. This practice was started by the Emperor as he searched for free labor in the palace. His solution was then taken up all over the Empire, promoting the Elf-trade along with the typical human slave-trade.
The Elve is the tall and graceful creature endowed with magic from nature and healing, immortal and beautiful, always between 5’8” and 6’2”. Their hair grows at an alarming rate, making it so that their entire species is know for their long thick locks, suspected to have power in each strand, making their hair a fine price on the markets.
The offspring of an Elve that has bred outside its species will carry the genetic code of the other breed. Example being if an Elve and a Faerie were to breed, the child would carry the Faerie gene. The only exception is obviously the Mage and the Elve, where the offspring would be Elve.

Pixie

Types:
Pixie
Can be bred against:
Pixie
Powers:
Oracle
+ Winged Flight
Description:
There is one thing for which the Pixie is most coveted: the power of Oracle which it possesses. At random intervals, these creatures (under 8 inches in height), have visions of past, present, and future that are highly sought after. The only trouble is that these creatures are fast and stubborn, quick-witted and ruthless, sassy and troublesome. They are virtually impossible to befriend, but if their friendship is won, it is utterly unbreakable and you will likely be cursed by the constant presence of a pixie on your shoulder.

Nymph

Note: This species is strictly female! Any and all offspring will likewise be female and take on the species of nymph no matter what it is bred against! This is the most dominant gene!
Types:
Water
Fire
Air
Earth
Can be bred against:
Mage
Faerie
Elve
Demon
Gifted
Human
Powers:
Unique to Element
Description:
The four types of Nymph coincide with the four elements of Water, Fire, Earth, and Air. A Nymph that is of a particular element, will match that element in powers and appearance. Also, each Nymph is gifted with form into which it can shapeshift that also matches its element. Water can shift into a mermaid, the legend known as Siren. Fire can shift into a dragon. Earth can shift into a Centaur. Air can shift into a Pegasus.
Although they can take these forms, they cannot produce offspring in this form, hence they are forever bound to the gene Nymph. They are always outstandingly beautiful, given their original purpose of luring unsuspecting males to their death. Their hair is long and always colored to match their element (water-blue, fire-red, earth-green, air-yellow). Their eyes, however, can vary. All Nymphs also have the ability to breathe their element. A Water Nymph does not need to take the mermaid form in order to breathe under water. Likewise a Fire Nymph could breathe smoke. Again, these creatures are actually most comparable to humans in age expectancy, typically not living more than 100 years.
The greatest rivals for these Nymphs are actually each other, Water and Fire being sworn enemies, but Fire being friends with the Air. And Earth loving Water but fearing of Air. For the most part, these creatures are trapped in their own paradigm and fail to acknowledge the occurrences of the outside world. There are, however, exceptions.

Demon

Types:
Demon
Demonth
Can be bred against:
Demon
Mage
Faerie
Elve
Nymph
Gifted
Human
Powers:
X-ray vision
Laser vision
Torture
+ Winged Flight
Description:
The Demon itself can come in male or female forms and usually only live about 20 year or so, born as full adults and dieing in near the same condition. But they run rampid breeding with each other and infecting other species to the best of their ability. They exist for a single purpose to which they all feel driven: to spread evil. One of their best techniques to do this, is to pass on their demon qualities to other species by interbreeding as much as possible.
Anything bred with a demon will maintain their species but take on demonistic qualities, creating what is considered a Demonth. These hybrids take on a corrupt appearance and a dark and sadistic nature. The only way to redeem a Demonth is by the use of blessed Faerie water from the city in the sky itself. The kicker is really that the Demonth must drink the water of its own free will, usually a difficult task as the once pure creature battles with its inner demon for control.
These creatures also have reptilian wings, which they pass onto their victims, a sickly dark decaying black, bat-like in appearance. Or the occasional feathered wing of sickly skinny black- varying from Demon to Demon. Their favorite prey is Humans, but when given the opportunity they will die to take down a Faerie or a Mage. Anything pure disgusts them.

Centaur

Types:
Centaur
Pegataur
Unitaur -(diamond around horn appears on forehead but horn is actually abscent)
Can be bred against:
Centaur
Unicorn
Pegasus
Powers:
Strength
Speed
Description:
For the most part, centaurs are mysterious creatures, keeping entirely to themselves. To our knowledge, their only powers are incredible Strength and Speed. They are known to have a life-expectancy of about 300 years. They live in the forest, occasionally breeding with the Pegasus or the Unicorn, resulting in a centaur with wings or a jeweled forehead. respectively. Little else is known of these creatures.

Unicorn

Types:
Unipeg
Unitaur -(diamond around horn appears on forehead but horn is actually abscent)
Can be bred against:
Unicorn
Pegasus
Centaur
Powers:
Illusion
Healing
Description:
Although just as mysterious as the Centaur, ledgend has given the Unicorn race a standing in society and a legacy of incredible porportions.
The Unicorn except that the life-expectancy is exactly 1000 years. They are gifted with the power of illusion, typically used as a protective device but also applicable as a weapon depending on how they use it. They are also endowed with the ability to heal by touching their horn to any earthly wound. They are brilliant creatures hiding out in the forest. They are an incredibly rare breed, being uninterested in reproduction they rival the Mage in their rarity. They are most honorable steed, offering their back only to the Elite Faerie and the Mage. They come in multiple colors and shades, each reflecting hidden inner meanings, some say they can be read like mood rings, other think it is far more complex than that.
Rare interbreeding with the Centaur or the Pegasus will result in a centaur with a jeweled forehead or a Unicorn with wings respectively.

Pegasus

Types:
Pegataur
Unipeg
Can be bred against:
Pegasus
Centaur
Unicorn
Powers:
Invisibility
+Winged Flight
Description:
The Pegasus is the mount of the Faerie, most locked away with them in the Faerie city. The powers of the Pegasus are mostly the power of Invisibility and their ability to fly, although it is rumored there is powerful magic concealed in a single feather from a Pegasus wing. The life expectancy of these creatures is usually only about 500 years, unless they bind themselves to a Faerie. Once they bind themselves to a Faerie, their life and death are connected so that they could live to be several thousand years old. Many Pegasus however choose not to bind themselves to a Faerie because of the implications of the mind and the spirit caused by this bond.
If bred against a Unicorn or a Centaur the result with consist of a Pegasus with a horn or a Centaur with wings respectively.

Mermaid

Types:
Mermaid
Can be bred against:
Mermaid
Powers:
Water
Animal Communication
Description:
Creatures of the sea, they appear half human and half fish, or so the story goes. In reality, a mermaid is much more fish than human, consisting of mostly fins, scales, and gills but also having arms, a body-like shape, a head, and long weed-like hair. In all honesty, these creatures are not very beautiful at all, being a blend of sea-life in hues of blues and greens. The exception to this appearance is the transformation for Nymphs, who retain a much more human-like demeanor when in mermaid form.
Their power is limited to the water and communication with the animal-life there. Breeding is entirely limited to each other. For the most part they remain in the depths of the seas and oceans, not venturing near the surface to be pestered by the land-goers. They also live in small communities of twenty or thirty merpeople supporting one another.

Dragon

Types:
Ice
Fire
Can be bred against:
Dragons
Powers:
Fire or Ice
+ Winged Flight
Description:
The Dragon is the untamable creature and embodied representation of power and strength. Living as loners, these creatures once existed in peaceful harmony with the only inhabitants of Illumalta. Now, having been turned against, they are vicious and bloodthirsty, reining havoc where they will and answering to no one. They live to about 1000 years and breed only occasionally, always by the force of the male. The two types being fire and ice are sworn enemies, never interbreeding because physical contact will both hurt and likely kill them. The powers are unique to their type and both are gifted with reptilian wings giving them the power of flight. These creatures range in size from horse-size to bigger than a sycamore tree.

Gifted

Types:
Gifted
Can be bred against:
Gifted
Mage
Faerie
Elve
Nymph
Demon
Human
Powers:
Vary (Only one)
Description:
The Gifted are in essence exactly the same as Humans but for one unique difference: they are born from humans but by a genetic hiccup have an extra component in their bloodstream that gives them each an individual and unique power and the magical title that allows them to rise above their birth status of Human. These gifted traits typically begin to show themselves around the first year and become prominent by the third.
Because of this magical blood, their life expectancy is extended from the usual Human life-line and given another hundred years. Because this is only a genetic hiccup, the variation keeps specifics always changing from one to the next so that little can be said about this classification as a whole.

Human

Types:
Royal
Human
Can be bred against:
Human
Mage
Faerie
Elve
Nymph
Demon
Powers:
None
Description: There is nothing extraordinary about Humans. They are ignored by some of the magical population, but incredibly intertwined with others. For the most part however, they are citizens of the Empire of the rule of the Magicks. Typically this works well for them and there are little complaints. All and all, they are just another part of the ecosystem and not worth a lengthy description.

Note: In addition to all the species listed here, there are the subtypes of interbred species. These are listed under each species type. If you want to request a species not on the list, please contact me. I am open to ideas.
