Title: Questions && Advice (Cooper)

Brenda Barrett Cassadine - April 23, 2012 01:57 PM (GMT)
I knocked on the door to Cooper and Serena’s house, worried about what was going on with my nephew. Julia had sounded cryptic on the phone, but I grabbed Julianne from kindergarten and came straight to the cottage that held so many memories for Stefan and me, and our children.

I opened the door, not that surprised to see aunt on the other side. Eventually, she would have to five out about my craziness. I was just hoping it was after I had committed myself.

"Hey Brenda."

My nephew opened the door and he probably wasn’t surprised to see me on the other side. I was glad when my sister called me when she did, because one way or another, I would have to find a way to figure out what was going on with Cooper. I’m sure that Cooper was just hoping that it was after he had committed himself. “Hey Brenda,” he said.

“Cooper, why didn’t you or Serena call me?” I asked softly.

I moved so she would have room to enter the house.

"We didn't want you to worry."

Cooper moved aside so I would have room to enter the house. “We didn’t want you to worry,” he said.

I smiled a bit to ease the tension, getting a book out and allowing Julianne to rip it delicately from my hands. “That’s your mother’s job. I have my daughter’s wedding to worry about, and her pregnancy too,” I replied.

Cooper Barrett - April 24, 2012 07:33 PM (GMT)
I smiled back at her. "Good. The last thing I want to do is worry you." I paused. "Look, I don't know how much you know, but could you not tell the rest of the family."

My nephew smiled back. “Good. The last thing I want to do is worry you.” He paused. “Look, I don’t know how much you know, but could you please not tell the rest of the family?”

I nodded. “If that’s what you want, I won’t tell a soul. Your life is precious, Cooper, don’t let it pass you by,” I told him as I sat down on the couch and patted the cushion next to me.

I sat down beside her, and let out a deep breath at her comment.

"I might not have a choice."

Cooper sat down beside me, and let out a deep breath at my comment. “I might not have a choice,” he told me.

Grabbing his face between my hands, I make him look at me. “As your aunt and one of the maternal figures in your life, I’m going to tell you otherwise, Cooper Barrett,” I said firmly. “You know you have a choice with your life.”

"Not when a brain tumor is taking over one fourth of my brain and I might die. Somethings are just outta my hands, Aunt Brenda," I said, tears filming my eyes.

I couldn't keep the tears at bay, not anymore.

“Not when a brain tumor is taking over one-fourth of my brain and I might die. Some things are just out of my hands, Aunt Brenda,” he said, tears falling from his eyes. I knew he couldn’t keep the tears at bay, not anymore.

My youngest must have noticed him crying and she moved closer, edging her way between us. “Don’t cry, Cooper, there doesn’t need to be any tears,” she told him as she kissed his hands.

I smiled a little bit and brought her into my lap. “She’s right, Cooper, there’s no need for tears,” I agreed with Julianne.

I suddenly felt guilty for having fallen apart in front of a child.

"I'm fine. Your cousin Cooper is fine," I said, taking Julianne from her mother's arms and placing her in my lap. I tickled her sides a little.

Cooper probably suddenly felt guilty for having fallen apart in front of a child, especially his own cousin. “I’m fine. Your cousin Cooper is fine,” he said, taking Julianne from my arms and placing her on his own lap. He tickled her sides a little.

I smiled a bit. “Have you and Serena discussed having one of her?” I asked as I gestured to Julianne.

I narrowed my eyes at my aunt.

"Well, yes, but given the circumstances..."

Brenda Barrett Cassadine - April 25, 2012 08:13 PM (GMT)
Cooper narrowed his eyes at me, his aunt. “Well, yes, but given the circumstances…”

I scoffed then smiled. “Please, I’ve been through worse circumstances than Serena has, Cooper, remember that,” I told him. “Helena didn’t know about Anastasia, I nearly died giving birth to my son and Julianne was an unexpected surprise during my reconciliation with Stefan.”

"Do you not understand that I'm D Y I N G?!" I spelled it so Julianne wouldn't understand.

“Do you not understand that I'm D Y I N G?!” He spelled it so Julianne wouldn't understand.

“I do, Cooper, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t have more children with Serena. She loves you, and she’s loved you since she was a teenager,” I reminded him with a firm tone.

"But, what if I don't get to watch the baby grow up?"

Suddenly I felt lightheaded, and quickly handed my cousin over to her mother, right before I went into a seizure.

“But, what if I don’t get to watch the baby grow up?” I was scared when he quickly and swiftly handed Julianne over to me, before Cooper fell back onto the couch and began to have a seizure.

Julianne looked up at me and began to cry. “Its okay, Baby Jules, we’re going to call 9-1-1 just like we talked about, okay?” I said as gently as I could while sweeping back her hair out of her face. Quickly I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Robin, who said she’d be right over with Patrick & Ian.

Shannon Drake, M.D. - April 25, 2012 10:42 PM (GMT)
Right after Patrick and I dropped off Noah and Mackenzie, we each got a page on our cell phones. It was Ian calling to let us know about a house call, and that he was en-route to the house. He drove the normal speed limit but pressed on the gas a little more once we were getting closer and when we pulled up to the house, the ambulance was there, and I sent up a prayer before Patrick helped my pregnant self out of the car. “What do we have?” I asked as I took the chart from one of the EMTs.

“Young white male in his 30s, had a seizure while visiting with his aunt and cousin,” he replied.

Cooper Barrett - April 25, 2012 10:46 PM (GMT)
When I finally came to, I was riding in an ambulance.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked.

Shannon Drake, M.D. - April 25, 2012 11:03 PM (GMT)
I asked Patrick and Ian to let me ride in the ambulance with Cooper and asked them to meet me there. I was going over Cooper’s chart when I looked over and saw that he had waken up. “What the hell is going on?” he asked.

“Watch your language, Officer Barrett, I’m carrying a child,” I demanded softly, gesturing to my 5 month pregnant belly. “You had a seizure while you were visiting your family. Do you want to tell me how it happened?” I took out the pen-light that I was required to carry and began to inspect his pupils.

Cooper Barrett - April 25, 2012 11:06 PM (GMT)
I blinked, smacking her hands away from my face.

"My family? I don't remember. What the hell are you talking about?"

Shannon Drake, M.D. - April 25, 2012 11:20 PM (GMT)
He blinked, and did something that was completely uncalled for, slapping my hands away from his face. “My family? I don’t remember. What the hell are you talking about?”

“Do I need to remind you of who my sisters are, Officer? You probably remember one of them, you did date her. Please watch your language, and rest,” I demanded softly again.

Cooper Barrett - April 26, 2012 04:13 AM (GMT)
"I have no idea who you are, or who your sisters are!"

Shannon Drake, M.D. - April 26, 2012 12:01 PM (GMT)
“I have no idea who you are, or who your sisters are!” he practically shouted in my face.

“No? Does Mariah “Maxie” Jones Quartermaine ring a bell? That was the sister you dated, here’s a photo of her,” I said softly as I tried not to tremble while pulling out the photo from my wallet.
