ALL I CAN HEAR IS THE SOUND OF ALWAYS
“The one with the power to blind the eyes of the Dark Lord’s minions approaches … and the Dark Lord will remain entombed in eternal darkness, but he will have power the Dark Lord knew not … the power to turn the world on it’s axis … demonic and unstoppable, our new Dark Lord shall arise …the one with the power to destroy all will be born before the year dies …”
No matter what happens, however, despite impending destruction world wide, a mother will love her child, always.
...but what if?

“What do you think this means?” “I can’t say, love. I’m just glad we won’t be around to see it.”
The esteemed Malfoy couple, now crumbling with age, sat in their lounge on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Lucius sat in his high backed armchair with his cane at his side, Narcissa with her needlepoint abandoned in her lap on the couch. They were both somewhat perturbed, although at the same time; could care less. News of the new prophecy was traveling fast around the Wizarding World – and with the expected baby boom already taking its course, it had all young mothers quite horrified. The prophecy had been discovered by someone quite unlikely under quite likely circumstances. Abusing his job at the Ministry once more, the younger Malfoy had been poking around in a room of secrets, accidentally stumbling upon something oddly horrifying. At first, he’d dismissed the beginning stanza – it sounded an awful lot like the prophecy that had been fulfilled not more than five years ago – but the rest rattled his bones. His first thought was his beloved wife who sat loyally at home, with child, awaiting his return ever so patiently. Draco Malfoy had been irritated, confused, irate and frustrated all at once – and of course, the first people he’d alerted had been his parents, who’d been mulling over the news for the past week or so.
“Who do you think it will be?” Narcissa questioned again, while her husband became quite cranky. “I don’t know, Narcissa,” he replied irritably, “and I don’t particularly care. We aren’t influenced in any way, now are we?” “I suppose not, but what if—” “What if what?” She paused a moment. “What about Draco’s child?” Lucius frowned, something along the lines of worry etched into his wised features, before he sighed heavily. “As I said before, love,” he murmured in a defeated tone, “I’m glad we won’t be around to see it.”

Young mothers everywhere were panicking – although quietly so. On the outside, many assured themselves and others that it wasn’t them; lord, no, it wouldn’t be them. They were too nice, too sweet, too kind – but the prophecy hadn’t quite given any clues. It had reminded them all of something along the lines of another Boy Who Lived-esque problem about to make itself known – but at the same time, it was unlike anything they’d ever heard before. This prophecy told of their world ending as they knew it – of a new Dark Lord arising, one with the ‘power to destroy all’. The prophecy of the end of Voldemort was much more relieving than this newfound promise of tumult in their calm world. They all attempted to ignore it, however, and some did; successfully pushing their woes aside. They were going to be parents for the first time – it was a beautiful experience. The cravings, being able to boss their husbands around, being able to eat whatever they wanted because… well, they were already fat. It was a luxury they all enjoyed quite much, save for the morning sickness and the mood swings – but every joy in life has it’s perks, don’t they? The prophecy came up in the topic of conversation at baby showers, sure, but only as merely a joke.
“Pass me the oranges, would you? I’ve got an awful want for oranges.” “D’you think it’s a boy or a girl? I hope it’s a girl, I love baby girls…” “Why, just the other day dear Draco ran out to get me some lemon squares, such a doll he is…” “What if?”
Cue the awkward, uncomfortable silence. They could push it away and push it away as much as they wanted – but there was always the nagging question. What if? What if their child was the next Dark Lord? What if their baby, their beautiful creation and gift to this world, was something that needed to be exterminated? Taken away?
Why, they’d keep it a secret, of course. No one would ever know, and no one would ever harm their precious children. Their husbands felt the same, almost one hundred percent.
“Fuckin’ Pansy had me running all around London at two thirty in the morning last Tuesday…” “Oi! Quit your whining, Ginny damn near ruined the bathroom carpet!” “I told you to take the carpeting out once you knocked her up, mate, you should’ve listened.” “Yeah, well, that’s nothin’ compared to what Lavender did, I swear to Merlin-” “What if?” Another uncomfortable pause cut through the false happiness like a knife through butter. “Then we keep it a bloody secret, you fool,” ah, the voice of knowledge. “You don’t tell anybody, simple as that.”

With half the Wizarding World’s twenty seven year old population bursting at the seams with a baby (or two!) in their tummies, it isn’t anything but silent chaos. Silent, painful chaos, with a touch of hope here and there. No matter what happens, however, despite impending destruction world wide, a mother will love her child, always.
